Jonah K is an artist, musician, and DJ known far and wide for his richly detailed visual art and dark, bass-oriented music. Drawing inspiration from deep, sub-aquatic atmospheres and rich, imaginary worlds; Fusing fragments of eerie melodies with strange syncopated rhythms and the precise, mechanized roll of tech-step drum n bass, Jonah K conjures up a unmistakable style all of his own.
Growing up in Toronto, Canada, Jonah was highly influenced by the hightening rave and electronic music culture of the mid 90's. Inspired by the seemingly endless network of autonomous, nomadic communites within the underground and drawn to a darker aesthetic and incresingly fast and bass-driven sounds of jungle and drum n bass Jonah began to focus his energy and talents in any way he could think of into this new world. While studying "sonic art " at the Ontario College of Art and meticulously sharpening his DJing skills, Jonah joined forces with good friend Tomoko and began working together, organizing gatherings of their own and working closely with the Om summer solstice festival. It was in conjunction with Om that they formed the GNOME collective and began incorporating the ideas of sustainable creativity and care for the earth into the focus of their projects.
Jonah has since independantly released two albums of original material, has produced a short CGI film and has performed numerous times throughout the North America and abroad at events in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New York and Nevada.
The essential goal of Jonah's work is to welcome others into mysterious underground places. To reveal beauty in the darkness and to make bodies, minds and feet resonate with the harder, faster and less conventional rhythms of nature.
